The Machame Route, known as the "Whiskey Route," is one of the most scenic and sought-after paths up Mount Kilimanjaro. This 7-day camping itinerary features dramatic highlights like the Barranco Wall, Lava Tower, and glacier views, with superior acclimatization via "climb high, sleep low" principles and an extra rest day at Karanga Camp. Ascend from lush rainforest through moorland, alpine desert, and summit ice to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), descending via Mweka. The extra day at Karanga was a game-changer—felt much stronger on summit day with no bad altitude symptoms. The Barranco Wall and Lava Tower were highlights, scenery unreal! Guides were top-notch. 7 days is definitely the way to go for Machame—high success and worth it.
