What Is Included in Your 2-Day Safari Blue & Beach Stay
This 2-day package is for travellers who came to Zanzibar for the ocean. Day 1 is a full Safari Blue trip of about 10 hours including transfers: a traditional dhow sails through the Menai Bay Conservation Area with two snorkel stops, a seafood lunch on a sandbank and time to look for dolphins. You spend the night in our private villa with breakfast, and on Day 2 we take you to Nungwi or Kendwa for a free beach day. Prices run from $230 per person for groups of four or more to $410 for a solo traveller.
Safari Blue departs from Fumba on the south-west coast, where Menai Bay's reefs, sandbanks and small islands are protected as a marine conservation area. Snorkelling equipment, life jackets, lunch, fruit and soft drinks are included, and non-swimmers are welcome.
Safari Blue runs as a small group of up to 12 guests on the dhow, while the villa is used only by your group. The package is the 2-day version of our 1-day Safari Blue tour, with a villa night and a beach day added.

Your 2-Day Zanzibar Ocean Itinerary — Safari Blue & Nungwi
Day 1 is a full day on the water; Day 2 is free time at the beach. Because the dhow leaves early, Day 1 works best if you arrive in Zanzibar the day before. Times are approximate.

Day 17:00–7:45 AM · Pick-Up and Drive to Fumba
Your driver collects you between about 7:00 and 7:45 AM, depending on where you are staying, for the drive to Fumba on the south-west coast.

Morning · Sail into Menai Bay and First Snorkel
Board the dhow at Fumba and sail into the Menai Bay Conservation Area. At the first reef your guide hands out masks, fins and life jackets and leads the snorkel. Look for parrotfish, angelfish, surgeonfish and, with good visibility, sea turtles.

Midday · Sandbank and Seafood Lunch
The dhow anchors at a sandbank exposed by the falling tide. The crew grill fish, calamari and octopus (with lobster in season), served with rice, salads, tropical fruit and soft drinks, followed by free time to swim and relax.

Afternoon · Dolphin Watch and Second Snorkel
In the afternoon the crew look for the bay's spinner and bottlenose dolphins, then stop at a second reef for another snorkel. Sightings depend on the dolphins' movements on the day.

Evening · Return and Villa Check-In
The dhow sails back to Fumba in the late afternoon, and we drive you to our private villa to check in and rest. Dinner is not included.

Nungwi or Kendwa: Where Will You Spend Day 2?
Day 2 is spent on the north coast, at Nungwi or Kendwa. Both beaches are on the north-west tip of the island, about an hour's drive from Stone Town, and both have a small tidal range, so the sea stays close enough to swim at almost any time of day. On the east coast, by contrast, the water can retreat a long way at low tide.

Your driver takes you to the beach after breakfast, and the day is yours: swim, snorkel, walk, eat at a beachfront restaurant or simply rest. Water sports, boat trips and meals on the beach are paid locally.

What Should You Pack for Two Days?
Pack for two very different days: a guided excursion on Day 1 and a beach day on Day 2. Your main luggage can stay at the villa overnight.

- Reef-safe sunscreen, a sun hat and sunglasses
- A light long-sleeved top to protect against sun on the boat
- A dry bag or waterproof pouch for your phone

When Is the Best Time for This 2-Day Package?
Safari Blue runs all year, but sea conditions change with the monsoon winds. If the sea is unsafe, the boat trip is rescheduled or replaced with an equivalent land excursion at no extra charge. June to October and December to February are the driest periods and the most reliable for both the boat day and the beach day.

Pick-up from the airport or your hotel, all transfers, the full Safari Blue day on a traditional dhow with crew and guide, snorkelling equipment and life jackets, a seafood lunch with fruit and soft drinks, one night in our private villa with breakfast, and transfers to and from the beach on Day 2.

Usually not, because pick-up is between about 7:00 and 7:45 AM. Day 1 works best if you arrive the day before. If you land on the morning of Day 1, tell us your flight time when you enquire and we will advise the best plan.
No. Non-swimmers are welcome: everyone receives a life jacket, the water is calm and warm, and the sandbank is shallow enough to stand on. Many non-swimmers float with a mask and still see coral and fish clearly.
No. Menai Bay has spinner and bottlenose dolphins, and sightings are common, but wild animals can never be guaranteed. The crew keep a respectful distance when dolphins are found.
Safari Blue runs as a small group on a traditional dhow with up to 12 guests. If you would like the boat to yourselves, ask us about a private trip when you enquire. The villa night is for your group only.
