Everything Included in Your 2-Day Zanzibar Experience
This 2-day package combines Zanzibar's two classic experiences: a guided day of history and spices, and a free day on the beach. Day 1 is a Stone Town walking tour and spice farm visit with lunch. You spend the night in our private villa with breakfast, and on Day 2 we take you to Nungwi or Kendwa for the day before your onward journey. Prices run from $195 per person for groups of four or more to $375 for a solo traveller.
On the Stone Town walk your licensed guide leads you through the UNESCO-listed old town: the Old Fort, the Forodhani waterfront, Christ Church Cathedral on the site of the former slave market, Darajani Market and the carved doors of the narrow lanes. In the afternoon a short drive inland brings you to a working spice farm, where you see how cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla and pepper grow and taste them fresh.
The package suits first-time visitors, couples and families with two days on the island, often at the end of a mainland safari, who want to see the real Zanzibar as well as its beaches. It is the 2-day version of our 1-day Stone Town and spice farm tour, with a villa night and a beach day added.

What Will You See in Stone Town and on the Spice Farm?
Day 1 covers the main sights of historic Stone Town in the morning and a working spice farm in the afternoon. These are the stops most guests remember:
| Stop | What it is |
|---|---|
| Old Fort and Forodhani Gardens | A coral-stone fort built by the Omani Arabs around 1700, beside the seafront gardens |
| Christ Church Cathedral | Built on the site of the last open slave market, which closed in 1873; the memorial and museum are optional (about $5) |
| Darajani Market | Stone Town's busy main market for spices, fish, fruit and everyday goods |
| Carved doors and Kenyatta Road | Arab and Indian-style wooden doors throughout the old town, and the house linked to Freddie Mercury |
| Spice farm | Cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, black pepper, cardamom, turmeric and lemongrass, shown growing and tasted fresh |
For the full background on each landmark and spice, see our Stone Town and spice farm tour page.
Nungwi or Kendwa: Where Will You Spend Day 2?
Day 2 is spent on the north coast, at Nungwi or Kendwa. Both beaches are on the north-west tip of the island, about an hour's drive from Stone Town, and both have a small tidal range, so the sea stays close enough to swim at almost any time of day. On the east coast, by contrast, the water can retreat a long way at low tide.
| Nungwi | Kendwa | |
|---|---|---|
| Location | The northern tip of Zanzibar | Just south-west of Nungwi on the west coast |
| Atmosphere | Livelier, with a fishing village, dhow builders, restaurants and beach bars | Quieter and more spread out, with a long, wide beach |
| Swimming | Good at most tides; some sections are rocky | Some of the best tide-independent swimming on the island |
| Things to do | Village walks, the Mnarani turtle aquarium, sunset dhow cruises, water sports | Swimming, relaxing, sunset on the beach, boat trips towards Mnemba |
| Best for | Travellers who want food and activity choices | Travellers who want space and calm water |
Your driver takes you to the beach after breakfast, and the day is yours: swim, snorkel, walk, eat at a beachfront restaurant or simply rest. Water sports, boat trips and meals on the beach are paid locally.
For more detail on every coast, read our Zanzibar beach guide.
What Should You Pack for Two Days?
Pack for two very different days: a guided excursion on Day 1 and a beach day on Day 2. Your main luggage can stay at the villa overnight.
- Light clothing that covers your shoulders and knees for Stone Town
- Comfortable walking shoes or sandals with good grip
- Swimwear, a towel and reef-safe sunscreen for Day 2
- Sun hat and sunglasses
- Insect repellent for the spice farm
- Some cash in US dollars or Tanzanian shillings for optional museum entry, market purchases, beach lunch and tips
Good to Know
- Ask before photographing people, especially in Stone Town and in villages
- Swimwear is for the beach and hotel; cover up when you walk through villages or towns
- During Ramadan, avoid eating, drinking or smoking in the street during daylight hours
When Is the Best Time for This 2-Day Package?
The package runs all year. June to October is the most comfortable time for walking in Stone Town and the most reliable for beach weather. December to February is hot, with calm seas on the north coast. In the long rains of April and May showers are common, but they rarely last all day, and the spice farm is at its greenest.
| Months | Weather | What it means for this package |
|---|---|---|
| June – October | Dry, sunny and cooler | Ideal for walking, boat trips and beach days; the busiest season, so book early |
| November | Short rains, usually brief showers | Fine for touring; quieter and greener |
| December – February | Hot, humid and mostly dry | Excellent beach weather and calm seas on the west coast; busy over the holidays |
| March – May | Long rains, heaviest in April and May | Lower prices and fewer visitors; expect showers, and some beach hotels close |
Our Zanzibar travel guide covers the seasons month by month.
How Does This Package Compare with Our Other 2-Day Packages?

Questions About the 2-Day Stone Town, Spice & Beach Package
Pick-up from the airport or your hotel, all transfers, a guided Stone Town walking tour, a spice farm visit with tasting, lunch on Day 1, one night in our private villa with breakfast, transfers to and from the beach on Day 2, a licensed guide and bottled water.
$195 per person for groups of four or more, $215 for three, $255 for two and $375 for a solo traveller. The price falls as your group grows because the villa, transport and guide are shared.
Choose Nungwi for restaurants, beach bars and activities, or Kendwa for a quieter beach and calm swimming at almost any tide. Both are on the north coast, about an hour from Stone Town.
We plan around your arrival time. If you land in the afternoon, Day 1 can start with villa check-in and a shorter visit, and the full Stone Town tour moves to the morning of Day 2, leaving less time at the beach. Share your flight details when you book.
Yes. At the end of Day 2 we can take you to your next hotel instead of the airport, for example if you are staying on in Nungwi or Kendwa.
Wear light clothing that covers your shoulders and knees, and comfortable shoes for uneven streets. Stone Town is a conservative, mainly Muslim community, and modest dress is expected in the old town.
The Stone Town walk and the spice farm visit are included. Optional paid sites, such as the slave market museum, cost about $3–5 and are paid on the day.
Breakfast is prepared fresh each morning and typically includes tropical fruit, eggs, local bread and pastries, juice, tea and coffee.
Yes. The 3-day Stone Town, spice farm and beach package adds a day of swimming with turtles at Salaam Cave and Jozani Forest and a second villa night, from $305 per person.
Cancellations made more than 7 days before the start date receive a full refund. Cancellations within 7 days may incur a partial fee, depending on bookings already made on your behalf. We recommend travel insurance.
