Everything Included in Your 3-Day Zanzibar Heritage & Adventure Stay
This 3-day package is our most varied short stay: history, three very different animal encounters and a beach day. Day 1 combines a Stone Town walking tour with a boat trip to Prison Island to meet the giant tortoises, with lunch included. On Day 2 you swim with sea turtles at Salaam Cave in Kizimkazi, then walk in Jozani Forest among the red colobus monkeys. Day 3 is a free beach day at Nungwi or Kendwa. You spend two nights in our private villa with breakfast. Prices run from $320 per person for groups of four or more to $590 for a solo traveller.
The Stone Town walk takes about 2–2.5 hours, and the boat to Prison Island (Changuu) takes about 15–20 minutes from the waterfront. You spend about 1.5–2 hours on the island with the Aldabra giant tortoises, which were first brought from the Seychelles in 1919.
It suits families and first-time visitors who want variety. It builds on our 2-day Stone Town, Prison Island and beach package by adding the turtle swim, Jozani and a second villa night.

Your Complete 3-Day Zanzibar Itinerary — Stone Town to Nungwi
Day 1 and Day 2 are guided excursion days; Day 3 is free time at the beach. Times are approximate and are planned around your arrival and departure.
-
Day 1Morning · Pick-Up and Stone Town Walking Tour
We collect you from Zanzibar Airport or your hotel. Your guide leads a walk of about 2–2.5 hours through Stone Town: the Old Fort and Forodhani Gardens, Christ Church Cathedral and the former slave market, Darajani Market, the carved doors of the old town and Kenyatta Road.
-
Midday · Boat to Prison Island
From the Stone Town waterfront a traditional boat takes about 15–20 minutes to reach Prison Island. You spend about 1.5–2 hours there: feed the giant tortoises with leaves provided at the sanctuary, see the old prison and quarantine buildings, and swim or snorkel if you wish (snorkel hire about $10).
-
Afternoon · Lunch and Villa Check-In
Back in Stone Town, lunch is at a local restaurant. You then transfer to our private villa to check in and spend the evening at leisure. Dinner is not included.
-
Day 2Morning · Swimming with Turtles at Salaam Cave
After breakfast, drive south to Kizimkazi for Salaam Cave, a natural cave with a pool of clear turquoise water. You swim and snorkel with sea turtles and tropical fish and explore the cave's rock formations; the entry fee is included.
-
Afternoon · Jozani Forest and Mangrove Boardwalk
After a lunch stop (own cost), visit Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park. Your guide leads you along the forest trail to find the red colobus monkeys, which are often seen at close range, then along the raised boardwalk through the mangroves. Return to the villa for your second night.
-
Day 3Morning · Breakfast and Transfer to the Beach
Breakfast is served at the villa. Your driver then takes you to Nungwi or Kendwa on the north coast.
-
Daytime · Free Beach Day
The day is yours: swim, snorkel (equipment can be hired locally), walk along the beach or have lunch at a beachfront restaurant (own cost).
-
Afternoon or Evening · Departure Transfer
We drive you to Zanzibar Airport or your next hotel, timed to your onward plans.
Modern Luxury Zanzibar Villa — Where You'll Stay
Modern Luxury Zanzibar Villa | Private Pool & Spacious Living
Stay in our exclusive private Zanzibar villa — a beautifully designed Swahili-modern retreat set within lush tropical gardens. Your stay includes daily breakfast, fully air-conditioned living spaces, private pool access, and all the comfort you need to recharge between excursions. The villa is private, secure, and designed to feel like your own home on the island. It is in Shakani, a quiet coastal village in Zanzibar's West (Magharibi) district.
Salaam Cave: Swimming with Turtles at Kizimkazi
Salaam Cave is a natural cave at Kizimkazi, a fishing village on Zanzibar's south coast, with a pool of clear turquoise water. Its highlight is swimming with sea turtles: you swim and snorkel alongside them and tropical fish, then explore the cave's rock formations. It is one of the most memorable wildlife experiences on the island, and families and photographers especially enjoy it.
| What to know | |
|---|---|
| Where | Kizimkazi, on Zanzibar's south coast |
| What you do | Swim and snorkel with sea turtles and tropical fish in the cave pool, and explore the rock formations |
| Included | Entry fee, transfers and your guide |
| Bring | Swimwear, a towel and your own mask if you prefer it |
| Respect the turtles | Don't touch, chase or hold the turtles; let them come to you and follow your guide's instructions |
| Swimming ability | You should be comfortable in the water; tell us when booking if anyone in your group is not a confident swimmer |
Three Animal Encounters in One Short Stay
Few 3-day trips anywhere combine three such different animals. Each is seen in its own setting, and each has simple rules that keep the animals safe.
| Animal | Where | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Aldabra giant tortoise | Prison Island (Day 1) | Some are over 100 years old; feed them the leaves provided, but don't sit on or lift them |
| Sea turtle | Salaam Cave, Kizimkazi (Day 2) | Swim calmly alongside them; don't touch, chase or hold them |
| Zanzibar red colobus | Jozani Forest (Day 2) | Endangered and found only in Zanzibar; don't feed or touch them, and keep a few metres away |
Read more about the island and its history on our Stone Town and Prison Island tour page.
Nungwi or Kendwa: Where Will You Spend Day 3?
Day 3 is spent on the north coast, at Nungwi or Kendwa. Both beaches are on the north-west tip of the island, about an hour's drive from Stone Town, and both have a small tidal range, so the sea stays close enough to swim at almost any time of day.
| Nungwi | Kendwa | |
|---|---|---|
| Atmosphere | Livelier, with a fishing village, dhow builders, restaurants and beach bars | Quieter and more spread out, with a long, wide beach |
| Swimming | Good at most tides; some sections are rocky | Some of the best tide-independent swimming on the island |
| Best for | Food, activities and the Mnarani turtle aquarium | Space, calm water and sunsets |
After breakfast your driver takes you to the beach, and the day is yours until your departure transfer. Water sports, boat trips and meals on the beach are paid locally. Our Zanzibar beach guide compares every coast.
What Should You Pack for Three Days?
Pack light: your luggage stays at the villa for both nights, so you only need a day bag on the excursion days. Day 2 is a swimming day, so keep swimwear and a towel to hand.
- Light clothing that covers your shoulders and knees for Stone Town
- Comfortable walking shoes, plus closed shoes for the Jozani trail
- Swimwear and a towel for Prison Island, Salaam Cave and the beach
- Reef-safe sunscreen, a sun hat and sunglasses
- A dry bag or waterproof pouch for your phone on the boat
- Some cash in US dollars or Tanzanian shillings for snorkel hire, Day 2 lunch, beach meals and tips
Good to Know
- Don't touch, chase or hold the turtles at Salaam Cave, or feed or touch the monkeys in Jozani
- Swimwear is for the beach, the cave pool and the villa; cover up in villages and towns
- Ask before photographing people, and during Ramadan avoid eating or drinking in the street in daylight
When Is the Best Time for This 3-Day Package?
The package runs all year. June to October is cooler and drier, which is ideal for the Stone Town walk, the boat crossing and the forest trail. December to February is hot, with calm seas and excellent swimming. In the long rains of April and May showers are common, and if the sea is too rough for the Prison Island boat, your guide adjusts the plan on the day.
| Months | Weather | What it means for this package |
|---|---|---|
| June – October | Dry, sunny and cooler | Ideal for walking, forest trails and beach days; the busiest season, so book early |
| November | Short rains, usually brief showers | Fine for touring; quieter and greener |
| December – February | Hot, humid and mostly dry | Excellent beach and swimming weather; busy over the holidays |
| March – May | Long rains, heaviest in April and May | Lower prices and fewer visitors; expect showers |
Our Zanzibar travel guide covers the seasons month by month.

All four of our 3-day packages include two nights in our private villa with breakfast, swimming with turtles at Salaam Cave and a free beach day on Day 3. They differ in the Day 1 excursion and in whether Day 2 continues to Jozani Forest or leaves the afternoon free.
